Emo Igno
June 1st, 2007This evening, sitting around with my wife and our friend Jeff, he mentioned seeing a crapload of emo kids outside a local music venue. I immediately asked what an emo kid looked like. My wife suggested the kids from The OC. Jeff described what sounded to me like followers of The Cure.
Luckily, Wikipedia’s there to save the day. Then I realized that I’m old, and I don’t understand and can’t even identify this whole sub-culture of music. I do like Death Cab, but otherwise, I’m ignorant of it all. Wikipedia at least lets me feign knowledge of current popular culture.
It turns out that emo kids seem to be a mix of Robert Smith-alikes with a little punk thrown in, I guess.
At least I get to see Les Claypool next week.

Oh, yeah? I have to go see Fall Out Boy with my 13-year-old nephew in a few weeks. Now I’m an old fart pretending that I didn’t do the things that these kids may be doing at concerts. Maybe I can find an old Blue Oyster Cult t-shirt around here to wear…
At the other extreme, I bought tickets to see BB King for my wife’s birthday. I saw him over 10 years ago, and he was old THEN. (I doubt I’ll wear a Fall Out Boy t-shirt, though…)

Dude..I guess I’m emo…but I went and saw FOB in Atlanta. All the little ones were like up in the balcony so they didn’t get mobbed by everyone trying to kidnap Pete!! I’m 16, and my mom doesn’t really get it all. But that’s okay.
